Fu l'ultima stagione in cui i partecipanti poterono usare telai, motori e pneumatici differenti. Nella gara finale della stagione il pilota Marco Campos morì in un incidente. Questa è l'unico decesso avvenuto in manifestazioni sportive nella storia della F3000 Internazionale.
