Biografia Nato nel 1894 a High Forest, nella Contea di Olmsted (Minnesota) si laureò in ricerca, e si sposò nel 1925 con Helene Krag; non ebbero figli.
Cominciò la carriera di attore nel 1946 fino agli anni settanta, lavorando sempre come caratterista e come attore di B-movies.
In Italia è ricordato per il suo ruolo dell'irascibile Pete Wilkey nella serie televisiva Furia cavallo del West e Le avventure di Rin Tin Tin.
Morì di problemi cardiovascolari il 25 gennaio 1974. È sepolto, assieme alla moglie Helene (deceduta nel 1997) al Roselawn Cemetery di Roseville, Minnesota, a nord di Saint Paul.
