Le candidature sono state annunciate il 6 dicembre 2012. Fuck, Frank Ocean, Mumford & Sons, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Dan Auerbach hanno ricevuto il maggior numero di candidature con sei ciascuno.
Dan Auerbach con cinque vittorie è risultato essere l'artista più premiato dell'edizione. Gotye e Kimbra hanno vinto il premio registrazione dell'anno per Somebody That I Used to Know, diventando il secondo artista australiano e il primo neozelandese a vincere il premio.
