Mary Theresa Eleanor Higgins Clark Conheeney (de solteira Higgins), nada en Nova York o 24 de decembro de 1927Great Women Mystery Writers, 2nd Ed. by Elizabeth Blakesley Lindsay, page 40, 2007, Greenwood Press; e finada en Naples o 31 de xaneiro de 2020, foi unha escritora estadounidense, autora de novelas de suspense. Cada un dos seus libros converteuse nun best-séller nos Estados Unidos e varios países europeos, e todas continúan a ser editadas. A súa primeira novela de suspense, Where Are the Children, vai pola súa setenta e cinco impresión.
Traxectoria Mary Higgins Clark naceu no Bronx, Nova York. O seu pai morreu cando ela tiña dez anos, deixando a familia nunha situación económica difícil. Despois de terminar os estudos do ensino secundario, fixo un curso de secretariado e traballou como secretaria nunha axencia de publicidade durante tres anos. Abandonou a axencia para traballar como auxiliar de voo na Pan American Airlines, onde ficou ata o seu matrimonio con Warren Clark. En 1956 comezou a escribir contos para xornais e revistas e obras de teatro para a radio. O primeiro libro que publicou foi unha biografía de George Washington, Aspire to the Heavens.
Warren faleceu vítima dun ataque ao corazón en 1964, e Mary quedou con cinco fillos ao seu cargo. Foi entón cando decidiu dedicarse á escritura. Erguíase todos os días ás cinco da mañá e escribía ata as sete, hora en que preparaba os fillos para a escola.
O seu primeiro libro policial, Where Are the Children?, publicado en 1975, converteuse nun best-séller. Mary decidiu continuar os seus estudos e inscribiuse na Fordham University, onde, en 1979, se doutorou summa cum lauda en filosofía. Dende entón foi distinguida con 16 doutoramentos honoris causa e recibiu numerosos premios literarios. Os seus libros foron traducidos a varias linguas.
En 1996 Mary casou con John J. Coheeney e ese mesmo ano, lanzou a Mary Higgins Clark Mystery Magazine.
