O be joyful in the Lord, podobnie jak większość Chandos Anthems, opiera się na wcześniejszych kompozycjach. W tym wypadku anthem jest przeróbką Utrecht Jubilate, HWV 279D. Burrows. – Handel, Oxford University Press, 1994, s.80, s.95Donald Burrows – Handel and the English Chapel Royal, Oxford University Press, 2008, s.149, s.159-163., skomponowanego z okazji pokoju w Utrechcie w 1713 r.Z tej samej okazji Handel skompnował Utrecht Te Deum, HWV 278, które z kolei bazuje na Laudate pueri dominum, D-dur HWV 237 z 1707 r. Ograniczenia składu orkiestry i śpiewaków w Cannons spowodowały redukcję cztero- i pięciogłosowych chórów do trzygłosowych (sopran, tenor, bas), podobnie orkiestra – smyczki nie mają altówki.
