Kalendarz wyścigów Kalendarz serii GP3 liczył tyle samo eliminacji, co w zeszłym sezonie. Tym razem jednak zawodnicy nie rywalizowali już na krętych ulicach toru w Monte Carlo. W zamian do kalendarza trafił tor Yas Marina Circuit w Abu Zabi. Zgodnie z rotacją w F1, wyścig w Niemczech odbył się na Nürburgringu. Mimo braku obecności w kalendarzu Formuły 1 toru Circuit Ricardo Tormo w Walencji, włodarze serii zdecydowali się na zorganizowanie tam wyścigu.

Zmiany Techniczne Od sezonu 2013 seria GP3 będzie korzystać z nowej konstrukcji bolidu. Model Dallara GP3/13 zostanie wyposażony w aerodynamikę zbliżoną do tej z GP2 oraz F1. Zmieniony został również silnik na V6, który będzie generować moc dochodzącą do 400 koni mechanicznych. Wszystkie zmiany mają na celu zwiększenie osiągów maszyny, a tym samym jeszcze lepiej przygotowywać zawodników do startów w wyżej wymienionych kategoriach wyścigowych.

Zespoły Irlandzka ekipa Status GP nawiązała współpracę z brytyjskim teamem iSport International, startującym w GP2. Portugalski zespół Ocean Racing Technology zakończył działalność w serii po sezonie 2012. Jego miejsce zajmie fińska stajnia startująca w Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup, Koiranen Motorsport. Ten i pozostałe ekipy podpisały z serialem nowy kontrakt, który będzie obowiązywał do końca sezonu 2015. Francuska ekipa ART Grand Prix powróciła do swojej pierwotnej nazwy. Brytyjska stajnia Bamboo Engineering przejęła ekipę Atech GP CRS.
