Gatunek ten opisał w 1863 roku duński badacz fauny morskiej Henrik Nikolai Krøyer, nadając mu nazwę Chondracanthus brevicollis. W 1935 roku chiński biolog Yü Shou-Chie wprowadził dla niego rodzaj Ceratochondria.
